Matt Murphy is a lifelong Valparaiso resident and longtime community leader, beginning his term as mayor in 2020. “I’ve always been interested in serving my community and want to do all I can to make the city the best place to live, work and raise a family. I truly believe Valpo is a special place.”
Murphy joined the City of Valparaiso's leadership team in 2007, serving as Economic Development Director where he was a part of the revitalization of downtown, the creation of Central Park Plaza, and bringing both jobs and businesses to the community. He has also served as a member of the Valparaiso City Council, Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission, Porter County Council, as Vice President of the Valparaiso Economic Development Corporation and on the Valpo Schools Foundation.
Also a businessman, Murphy leads Jifco Products, along with an able staff. He and his wife, Polly, are raising four children, ranging in age from pre-school to high school. The active Murphy family are fans of Valpo parks and pathways and can often be found enjoying nearby parks and athletic fields.
