Contractor Registration

Registration Requirements
All contractors, sub-contractors, or specialty contractors working within the Valparaiso city limits must be registered with the city. The following items are required for new registration and renewal of registration:
  • Payment
    • Late registration: $80
    • New contractor: $100
    • Renewal: $50 (if renewed before expiration date)
  • A certificate of liability insurance that is no less than $500,000
    • Worker's compensation insurance must be included on the certificate. The certificate holder should be:

  • A completed contractor registration application form
  • recorded Porter County bond in the amount of $5,000
When mailing your registration, include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Your receipt serves as your registration and will be sent back to you in this envelope. When registering in person at City Hall, please bring all items directly to the clerk's window.

The City of Valparaiso now accepts credit cards.  See CARD PAYMENT button below to pay your registration fee online.  Your Contractor Registration Application is required at time of payment.  Please complete application form and email to valpobuilding@valpo.us when making online payment.

Please note: Your registration is not complete until all items have been provided. If we have received payment, but the bond is not recorded or the insurance certificate is not provided, it will hold up the issuance of the building permit, delay inspections, or delay the issuance of final occupancy.
