Crime Awareness
National Night Out is a national program that brings awareness to crime in our neighborhoods. The program designates a date every year when the community unites as one and shows support against crimes. The program provides an opportunity for neighborhoods throughout the city to organize special events such as cook-outs, ice cream socials, block parties, and safety fairs.
These community events provide neighbors an opportunity to meet each other and show their support against crime. The entire police department participates by visiting neighborhood events with patrol, bicycle, and K-9 officers. View pictures from previous years' events.
Interested Neighborhoods
National Night Out is the first Tuesday in August from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Once again the Valparaiso Police Department is asking neighborhoods to plan an event during the above date and time. If you are planning an event please contact Capt. Joe Hall at 462-2135 or by email at jhall@valpopd.com to schedule your event. Officers from the Bicycle Unit, K-9 Unit, Detective Bureau and Patrol Officers will be visiting events during the night. We would like to visit your event.
