You may request services from the Records Division between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm CT, Monday through Friday. The Records Division is closed on holidays and weekends. If you need more information from the division, please call 219.462.2135.
You may apply no more than 180 days (six months) before your current permit expires. You must complete the permit process at your local police agency before your permit expires, to be allowed to carry while your application is being processed. If your permit has expired, you cannot carry while the renewal is processing. You must fill out your application online. Click on this link to apply for permit.
Once you’ve submitted your application you have 30 days to make an appointment with IdentoGO to be fingerprinted. IdentoGO can be contacted at (877) 472-6917 or by their website at www.identogo.com, there is an $11.95 fee to be fingerprinted. The Valparaiso Police Department will no longer fingerprint applicants for gun permits. Once you have received your fingerprint receipt you will then need to visit the Valparaiso Police Department to complete the application process. Residents of Valparaiso that live outside the city limits will need to visit the Porter County Sheriff's Department located at: 2755 S. State Rd. 49 Valparaiso, IN 46383. Residents of Valparaiso who live in the city limits will come to the Valparaiso Police Department located at: 355 S. Washington Street Valparaiso, IN 46383

You may complete your application Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm CT (except on holidays).
Please remember to bring the following:
• Receipt from IdentoGO.
• Your current handgun permit if applicable
• Your Indiana driver’s license or picture ID with your current address
*You must show proof that you live in the Valparaiso city limits with either your ID or a current utility bill.
When you arrive, your application will be reviewed and signed. The gun permit application will be sent electronically to the Indiana State Police for final review and approval. If approved, your permit will be sent through the mail.
