TREE DIVISION

The city of Valparaiso is a nationally designated Tree City and we value our trees for their beauty and their positive effect on our ecology and property values.

Recently, the City of Valparaiso, through Davey Resource Group, has completed an INVENTORY OF PUBLIC TREES throughout the city. CLICK HERE to view / print down the INVENTORY SUMMARY. For additional information, please contact Ron DeTorrice, Public Works Director, at (219) 462-4612.

FOR RESIDENTS:

Trees located in the right-of-way or parkways (between the sidewalk and the street) are city property and are cared for and maintained by the city's Tree Crew.

The Tree Crew consists of four Certified Line Clearance Tree Technicians, including a nationally certified arborist. The team maintains city trees, including trimming, dead-wooding, pruning, and removals -- where necessary. When trees are removed, the city grinds the stump and repairs the area with black dirt and grass seed.

Contact Public Works at 462-4612 or e-mail at publicworks@valpo.us for any concerns about maintenance, removal, or planting of city-owned trees or to clarify ownership of tree(s) in question. It's important that property owners alert the city, rather than treat a city-owned tree. Violations are subject to fines.
