LEAF PICK-UP
Click
here to view / print down a city
map showing leaf pick-up days and locations (PDF format). Below
is the leaf-pick-up schedule throughout Valparaiso:
In
order to make leaf collection more convenient for residents, leaf
collection will be scheduled for the same day as recycling
pickup for all areas in the city with the following exception:
the area over Joliet Bridge (including Joliet Road, Farrell,
Logan, Kinsey, Stokes, and West Streets, Westside Park, and the
Coolwood, High Sierra, and Shamrock Subdivisions) will have leaf
collections scheduled for Thursdays.
Leaves
should be raked out to the street for collection - not bagged
unless in biodegradable bags - on the day of pick-up by 7:00
a.m.. We DO NOT SERVICE ALLEYS for leaf pickup. Also, please
do not mix any brush in with the leaves or we will not be able to
pick them up until they have been separated. In the event that we
do not complete the scheduled day of pick-up, we will continue the
following workday. During leaf season, the pick-up of brush and
appliances will be focused mainly on Thursdays and Fridays. Also
remember:
- Leave
your leaves at the edge of the street for pick up.
- Leaves
should be the only thing in the pile – no sticks, bricks,
boards or other items.
-
Additional items should be placed off the street, near
the curb.
- Note
that fall is the only time of year when leaves may be left in
the street and fall leaves are the only thing that can ever be
left at the edge of the street for pick up.
- Although
it’s preferable to leave leaves unbagged and uncovered,
leaves may be placed in biodegradable bags (NO plastic)
or covered with a tarp at the curb to prevent them from blowing.
Generally,
leaves will be picked up on the same day as recycling. However,
some neighborhoods will be picked up on Thursday rather than Tuesday,
including Shamrock, High Sierra, Joliet Rd. west of 130, and West
St. west of Marsh St.
Leaves
picked up by Public Works are taken to the city-owned state-sanctioned
composting facility located at 2150 W. Lincolnway, where they are
composted. This compost is available to City residents. For details,
