The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is making safety upgrades at State Road 49 and Burlington Beach Road/CR 500. “We’re very pleased to see these safety enhancements and have worked with both INDOT and residents in finding ways to make this intersection safer for all,” said Mayor Matt Murphy. “Safety is a top concern, and we will support these signage and roadway enhancements with police patrols to reinforce speed limits and safe driving,” he said.
To enhance safety, INDOT has studied the intersection, available crash data and traffic signal timing. This week, INDOT has enhanced “buzz” rumble strips, making them louder to alert drivers in advance of the intersection. INDOT has also replaced pre-warning signage with 24-hour flashing alerts.
