FIRE SUPPRESSION RATING through ISO (Insurance Services Office).
As of 2008, the City of Valparaiso has been rated a 3 out of a possible 10.
The ISO rating scores are based on a combination of factors: 50% on fire protection, 40% on utilities, and 10% on communications. The rating has improved because of several factors:

Addition of one-million gallon water tower |
• |
Multiple water main replacements |
• |
Fire hydrant additions / replacements |
• |
Mapping / database system covering entire city |
• |
SCADA system to monitor / control water system |
• |
Additional manpower / training at Fire Department |
• |
Enhanced firefighting equipment |
• |
Enhanced communications between Utilities and Fire Departments |
• |
Consolidating the 911 center with Porter County |
