North Calumet Ave Project
UPDATE: This Project has been completed. This latest project on the Calumet Avenue corridor will install a pathway, curb and gutter, decorative lighting, and pavement widening along the east side of Calumet Ave, from Bullseye Lake Rd to Burlington Beach Rd. Calumet is being widened at two locations to create southbound left-turn lanes into Flint Lake Elementary School and the North Hampstead development. The $1.1M project is being being federally funded (80%) through the Surface Transportation Program, with the City’s Redevelopment Commission providing the local match (20%). The project will get underway on or after Monday, June 5th and last through September 22nd. Southbound traffic will be open throughout the project; however northbound traffic will be impacted as follows:
From June 5th through August 1st, northbound Calumet will be closed from Cheney Dr to Burlington Beach Rd (basically the northern half of the project; Cheney is the northern entrance into North Hampstead). This is being done first so that work along the frontage of the school can be done before school resumes in mid-August. Northbound Calumet Ave will be open to local traffic and businesses accessing south drive of the shopping center containing The Dish restaurant on the west side of Calumet Ave and through Finney Dr on the east side of Calumet Ave.
From August 1st through September 22nd, the southern half of the project will be constructed. Northbound Calumet will be closed from Bullseye Lake Rd to Finney Dr (Finney is the southern entrance into North Hampstead). Northbound Calumet Ave will be open to local traffic and businesses accessing the north drive of the shopping center containing The Dish restaurant on the west side of Calumet Ave and through Cheney Dr on the east side of Calumet Ave.
Depending on the direction you are traveling, the detour route is from Calumet Ave to Country Club Rd to Silhavy Rd to Burlington Beach Rd, or Burlington Beach Rd to Silhavy Rd to Country Club Rd to Calumet Ave. See the exhibit below for the route.
